Enjoy February in Florida at the Caribbean Classic

January 23, 2017 By Sherry Kerr

Caribbean ClassicSporting clays shooters are invited to enjoy the great weather in south Florida and attend this year’s Caribbean Classic at Indian River Shooting Sports in beautiful Vero Beach, February 8-13. Again this year, Mick and Emma Howells are planning a great shoot at their club with able assistance from Lois Lessing, the MEC traps team, and Gary Bloom, assistant target-setter.

Over the six days of the shoot, there will be plenty of opportunity to get in lots of registered targets — in fact, 750 targets are available for the shooter who elects to shoot everything on the program. New this year will be the addition of 50-bird small-gauge events in .410, 28, 20 and 12. To make it easier for everyone to shoot their preferred times, these events will be squadded (go to www.winscoreonline.com) and will run concurrently with the FITASC rotations on Wednesday and Thursday. Shooters can squad for these events individually by gauge.

The shoot program unfolds as follows:

Wednesday – Thursday: Cape May FITASC – 100 targets
Small Gauge events – 50 targets per gauge
Friday: White Flyer Preliminary – 100 targets
Friday – Sunday: Guerini 5-Stand – 50 targets
Saturday – Sunday: Kolar Main – 200 targets
Monday: Performance Shotgun Solutions Gator Cup Warm-Up – 100 targets

Guaranteed prize money for the Main Event is courtesy of Kolar Arms. Special thanks to John Ramagli and the Kolar gang for supporting the Caribbean Classic’s Main Event again this year as our title sponsor of these awards:

High Overall $ 1500.00
Runner-up      750.00
Master through E, Class 1st      300.00
Master through E, Class 2nd      200.00
Master through E, Class 3rd      100.00

Special events:

Saturday: Following the conclusion of the afternoon flight, the Shooter’s Party will be held at the beautiful showrooms of duPont/Krieghoff, conveniently located a short drive from the club toward the town of Vero Beach.

Sunday: Ironman 400. Guaranteed cash prizes for best combined score in the FITASC, Prelim, and Main Events. All shooters participating in all three of these events will be automatically entered at no additional entry fee. A new payout scheme this year will spread prize money as follows:

    Master thru E Class – Class 1st – $100 per class
    Concurrent 1st – $100 per concurrent

Awards and pictures for the winners and hor d’oeuvres for all will be immediately after the last shoot-off on Sunday afternoon. For further details, please call Emma at the club at 772-978-0935 or check out the club website at www.indianrivershootingsports.com.
