NSCA Adds American Field Sporting to Portfolio

April 5, 2020 By Sherry Kerr

NSCA has entered into a two-year licensing agreement with American Field Sporting (AFS), adding a new game to the sporting clays portfolio. In this agreement, effective immediately, the NSCA classification system will be used, and all targets will be included in the total targets shot during the agreement years. Participants will be eligible for punches in alignment with all other NSCA disciplines. Competition will begin in 2020 in the U.S., as well as other locations worldwide.

With AFS, participants will face new challenges in existing games with several additions, including:

  • Multiple formats to provide variety and new challenges for participants
  • Formats designed to be fun and fast
  • New target types
  • The XBird: a two-shot single that counts for two points if broken on the first attempt
  • A One-Shot Single that demands participants’ full attention
  • Reduced previews of targets
  • Efficient and effective rules

“The sporting clays community is ready for a new challenge, and we hope AFS will deliver,” said Mark Baltazar, AFS founder. “We’ve designed the game to be safe, challenging, and fun for participants. AFS provides flexibility and efficiency for clay target clubs with the number of traps used and the amount of clays thrown for viewing, as well as the number of field judges needed to officiate.”

John Commerford, NSCA Chairman, said, “We’re excited to provide a new game for our members to enjoy. American Field Sporting is a discipline that will give people who currently compete in sporting clays another reason to continue, but we expect AFS will attract new participants to sporting clays and provide an opportunity for industry growth.”

The partnership introduces a new game to the sporting clays market. AFS will not replace any existing games or sports, but rather serves as an addition to existing clay target games that are played around the world.
